The bill passed the Senate last Saturday night. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley voted against it …
Three Republican senators who are eyeing presidential bids voted to filibuster the bill. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio tried to thwart bringing cromnibus to the floor for a vote. They were handily defeated, 77-19. Chuck Grassley voted in favor of cloture.
There was also a vote, led by Ted Cruz, against Obama’s executive amnesty. It failed 74-22. Chuck Grassley, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio were among the few Republicans that sided with Cruz.
I interviewed Congressman Steve King on Thursday while I was filling in for Simon Conway on WHO Radio. King, like a lot of conservatives, does not understand why they put funding for Obama’s executive amnesty in this bill … He wanted to temporarily fund the government until the new Congress is seated.
“We will get a better deal when Republicans are in charge of the House and the Senate. It’ll be more conservative and fiscally responsible. And by the way, this bill allows for the funding of the president’s unconstitutional amnesty and it’s unconscionable to vote in favor of it,” King said.
A few hours after that interview, cromnibus passed the Republican-led House. In one of his last acts as a U.S. congressman, Tom Latham voted for the bill.
If John Boehner and Republican leaders do not take apart this executive amnesty in 2015, they are toast. Then again, it’s probably already too late.
Rand Paul is asking for trouble by bringing Jesse Benton back into the fold … Benton ran Rand’s 2010 senate race and was Ron Paul’s presidential campaign manager. He’s also married to Ron Paul’s granddaughter …
Benton is connected to the bribery scandal that is likely sending former Iowa State Senator Kent Sorenson to jail. Benton resigned from Mitch McConnell’s campaign after Sorenson pled guilty to accepting and concealing large sums of money to switch his endorsement from Michele Bachmann to Ron Paul just days before the Iowa Caucus …
Rand Paul doesn’t seem to care. He’s even blaming the Obama administration for the entire episode, claiming these are “politically motivated investigations”. Pure nonsense …
While Obama and his minions have indeed targeted their political enemies, the Sorenson/Paul/Bachmann saga is not one of those cases … These are real crimes that Kent Sorenson committed, the Ron Paul campaign facilitated and Jesse Benton almost certainly knew of … And the men who spurred these investigations, Peter Waldron and Dennis Fusaro, are prominent conservatives, not Obama acolytes.

Jeff Kaufmann is running for reelection for Republican Party of Iowa chairman. I doubt he’ll have any competition and even if he does, Kaufmann is likely to win in a landslide.
The Westboro cultists morons are attacking Iowa Rep. Bobby Kaufmann on social media and even threatening to picket him at the Capitol next year. And you thought the CCI nutjobs were annoying. These clowns take being stuck are on stupid to a whole new realm.
I expect Rep. Mark Costello to handily win the special election to fill the state senate seat vacated by Joni Ernst. Costello emerged victorious from the field of seven in the marathon nominating convention on Thursday. Then we’ll have to hold another special election to fill Costello’s seat.
